June's Centre offers many forms of very practical supports to the families that come to our Centre. Almost all of the families that we work with are all living in poverty. Many are reluctant to use services because of past negative experiences. The practical supports we offer can help break down some of the resistance while making a tangible difference in their lives.
We have breakfast and lunch available each day the Centre is open and dinner twice a week. We have a Swap Shop filled with donated baby clothes, maternity and women's clothes and all sorts of toys, books and small household items. The women who come to June's Centre can go to our Swap Shop and take what they need for themselves and their baby at no charge.
Each day when a young parent leaves June's Centre, we give her two Toronto Transit tickets - one to get home and one to get back. This eliminates the barrier of the cost of travel to and from our Centre.
We have emergency supplies of diapers and formula, breast-pumps available at a subsidized rate and frequently have new clothing available from generous donors.
