Choices
The purpose of this "I'm pregnant" section is to provide you with information about the choices and services available to you at the June Callwood Centre if you are pregnant.

Parenting:

If you know you are pregnant and have decided to continue with your pregnancy, check out our Teen Parent section for programs available to you at our Centre. There is lots of information in our Teen Parent section that will tell you about our 30 services.

I Don't Know If I Am Pregnant

If you need further testing to see if you are pregnant, and don’t know where to go, you can speak with one of our counsellors or contact Planned Parenthood Toronto at 416-961-0113. PPT has a great youth page on their website, where you can find out all about their "One Stop Shop for Youth Health Services". If you live outside of the Toronto area, you can go to the website for the Canadian Federation for Sexual Health and find a clinic in your area. Just click here to "Find a Member":

I’m Pregnant and I Need to Talk

If you know you are pregnant but you are unsure about what you want to do, you may need some help to explore your feelings and your overall situation. It’s important that the person you turn to for counselling listens to your needs and works with you so you can make the right decision for you. You have the right to be fully informed about all of your choices when making a decision about your pregnancy. We can tell you about some of the best places to go for counselling and for information on parenthood, adoption or abortion. If you need a referral, we can help set up all necessary appointments for you and we are always here to offer support.

Here is an article available online from the Canadian Federation for Sexual Health called "I Think I Might Be Pregnant" that you might want to read in addition to talking to a counsellor.

Are You Thinking of Adoption?

Adoption is a choice for women who want to continue their pregnancy by giving birth but they choose not to parent the baby. Adoption is a legal process, with several stages. There are a couple of different types of adoption. One is called private another is called public. When considering adoption it is important to have complete information about your rights and obligations. Our counsellors can help. If you live in Ontario, the Province of Ontario has a section on its website that answers typical questions about how Adoptions are done, such as:

  • How does a child get adopted?
  • Private vs. Public Adoption
  • Can I change my mind after I give my baby for adoption?
  • Will I know anything about the adoptive parents?
  • Does adoption mean I'll never see my child again?

Are You Thinking of Abortion?

Abortion is the ending of a pregnancy. In Ontario it is a legal medical procedure that is available in clinics and hospitals. There is no cost if you have a valid health card. It may also be possible to arrange an abortion if you have no access to a health card.

You may have many questions about abortion and whether it is right for you:

  • What is an abortion and how is it done?
  • How late in a pregnancy can an abortion be done?
  • Is it safe?
  • If I have an abortion can I still have children later on?

Contact Planned Parenthood Toronto at 416-961-0113 if you would like to know more about abortion, and you can read the following information online: Information on Abortion
