June Callwood Centre for Women and Families runs a housing program that helps participants find affordable and appropriate housing for themselves and their children. Once you are a participant at June's Centre (you have had an initial meeting with a teen counsellor) you can meet with the housing counsellor to talk about your housing needs, discuss housing options, and receive concrete support with your housing search.
Housing support offered at June's Centre includes:
Help searching through rental listings for units in your price range
Assistance with filling out subsidized housing applications
Help with calling landlords for interviews
Accompaniment when you go to look at rental units and meet the landlord
Information on your rights and responsibilities as a tenant
Advocating on your behalf if you face discrimination from a landlord
Help with household budgeting
Conflict resolution between you and your landlord
Accompaniment to the Ontario Rental Housing Tribunal if a dispute between you and your landlord goes to court
Referral to other community agencies (such as legal aid clinics and human rights organizations) that can support you around housing issues
